    Dr. Aaron Shiels joined Rockford Gastroenterology Associates, Ltd. in 2004. He is a board-certified Gastroenterologist. Dr. Shiels received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis where he also completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology fellowship. As a Gastroenterology Fellow, Dr. Shiels received special training in diseases of the liver, pancreas, and biliary tract, including diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP. He participated in research projects studying biliary complications after liver transplant surgery and complications following bariatric surgery for morbid obesity.

    He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association , American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and American College of Gastroenterology. He is the Gastroenterology Curriculum Director at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford and serves on the Medical Executive Committee for the medical school. He maintains an interest in pancreatic disease, biliary disease, and liver disease including treatment of hepatitis C.
