Marcella A. Howard is a board certified family nurse practitioner, specializing in gastroenterology.  Marcie joined Rockford Gastroenterology in 1992 as a staff nurse (CNA).  She received her BSN degree from St. Anthony College of Nursing in 1993.  She worked as a GI staff nurse for seven years prior to assuming her nurse practitioner position.   In 1999 she graduated from University of Illinois Chicago at Rockford with her MSN in the family nurse practitioner program.   She has been a certified gastroenterology nurse for over 15 years. She is an active member of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates and Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nurses.  She is also a member of American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).  She has given presentations to nurses locally and at the state level on topics of GERD, Celiac Sprue, Hepatitis C, and Vitamin D supplementation.  She specializes in liver disease, to include management and treatment of hepatitis C, steatohepatitis, and cirrhosis.
