Dr. Brad A. Bowyer joined Rockford Gastroenterology Associates, Ltd in 2009.  He was born and raised in central Illinois, received his Bachelor of Science Degree at Eastern Illinois University, and Medical Degree at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  Dr. Bowyer completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota.  Upon completion of his medical training, he was appointed to the gastroenterology consulting staff at Mayo Clinic Rochester and subsequently served as an assistant professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville.  Mayo Clinic Jacksonville was a pioneer in the development and implementation of the electronic medical record and while there, Dr. Bowyer was chairman of both the information systems committee and electronic medical record task force.  Dr. Bowyer left Mayo Clinic Jacksonville after 8 years of service and entered the private practice of gastroenterology where he continued his leadership roles as president of the medical staff and appointed member of the board of trustees at the West Georgia Health System in LaGrange, Georgia.  Dr. Bowyer remains involved with the Mayo Clinic by continuing to serve on the Mayo Clinic Referring Physicians Advisory Panel.

The results of Dr. Bowyer's scientific research at Mayo Clinic have been published in peer reviewed medical journals and presented at the national as well as local level.  Dr. Bowyer is board certified in gastroenterology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.  He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterology Association, and the American Medical Association.

Although Dr. Bowyer is well trained and experienced in the broad discipline of gastroenterology, he has special interest in therapeutic endoscopy, colorectal cancer screening, and the management of inflammatory bowel disease.  As a patient advocate, Dr. Bowyer believes mutual physician-patient commitment and communication are the cornerstones of quality healthcare.

Dr. Bowyer lives in Rockford with his wife and 5 year old daughter.  They enjoy family time, church life, and the outdoors.  As a family, they have particularly enjoyed success in A.K.C. retriever field trial competitions which has lead to invitations in national and international events.
